Old, New and Comfortable... that's what my friends represent. Whether they are old, longtime friends or new found friends I feel quite comfortable among them. We share good times, bad times, sorrows, triumphs, and piddly things. We share important dates and close secrets. We band together. We enjoy one another. We are comfortable!
Friends are the next best thing to family. I suppose in some ways they are "chosen family".
I was pleasantly surprised this week as I heard from a long ago friend. It was nice to be able to catch up on her and her family. I was also pleasantly surprised to have a dropin visitor. At first I didn't recognize him. He didn't recognize me either. Time has a way of creeping up on us and age takes its toll and vim, vigor, and sometimes our physical beauty. (not by any means implying that I was ever beautiful but perhaps decent or fairly attractive at some point). After asking if I could help him I caught the voice and as I looked closer I saw the resemblance of the man I had last seen 17 years ago! Our visit was long and sweet. I was comfortable in his presence. I could have closed my eyes and been fooled in thinking I was in a time warp!
Many friends drift out of our lives, but never from our hearts and minds.
I am thankful for each of my friends. I hope you count me as one of yours.
