Just For The Record

Leave home around 7:30 a.m.; pick up Erica from the Community College so her mom can attend classes; hot-foot Rianne-Kelly to the DMV so she can get learner's permit today.

Then realization sets in: I didn't read carefully what was required and came up short!

A trip back home provides an opportunity to say final goodbyes to sleepy headed family members and to retrieve her SS Card and then a trip to the highschool for verification that she had met the academic requirements needed. A quick stop to my sister's work to deliver some cake then another stop for gas to ensure we could make it to Morehead. A glance at my watch lets me know I have 15 minutes before my meeting at the Civic Center begins for the substitute teachers. A couple of parking spaces may be available in the outer most edges of the lots (although it seems unlikely) but I am late! What is one to do? Find a grassy spot without a "Do Not Park On Grass" sign and park. Squeeze out between the very narrow opening of the door due to the tree that prevents the door from opening any wider. Hail down the cop that is patroling through to ensure a ticket won't be on my windshield when I return; leaving both RK and Erica to enjoy the breeze and the radio. Return to vehicle 20 minutes later and proceed to the DMV for the second time today with a child who has been strapped in a carseat for 3 1/2 hours and is ready to move about freely.

At the DMV: We enjoy a 2 hour wait and leave with Learner's permit in hand. The drive home went well. Both of us did better than either expected. I am so proud of us!
